Study and Behaviour of Seismic Vibration Control of Skew and Non Skew Bridges Using Multiple Tune Dampers

Mohammed Zameer Ahamed J

Abstract

One of the most difficult tasks for civil engineers is to reduce structural vibration caused by dynamic loads in order to avoid potential damage and human and economic losses. The response of a system can be reduced by reducing external disturbance. However, in some cases, this may not be possible. Modifying a system to prevent the occurrence of resonance, on the other hand, may necessitate significant redesigning. It would also be difficult to apply it to existing structures I. As a result, using vibration control devices as a reliable and simple method was introduced. These devices are simply attached to existing systems to reduce structure vibration without significantly altering the original system. TMD passive tuned mass damper was introduced more than a century ago. These dampers are typically tuned to the structures' first natural frequency. Because TMD parameters remain constant throughout the structure's life cycle, it is critical to properly adjust them to achieve a favourable result. Nonlinear dynamic analysis is used to determine the optimal values for TMD parameters in structures with nonlinear behaviour.
