Green City – Step to Sustainable Living by Waste Management

Abstract


Today, major demographic shifts, pollution, energy crisis and other environmental hazards have uplifted the issue of development of various cities in a manner to minimize urban sprawl and maintain a clean livable environment for its citizens. In the quest to reach the ideal balance between man and nature and to optimize standards of living, where one does looks for inspiration?
As a giant system is always a reflection of its small entity, thus in a similar way a country is made of small cities. Therefore change and improvement in its cities would widespread and make it a sustainable nation at large. This paper directs the ideology towards green cities. ―Green Cities‖ consist of a system or group of systems which adhere themselves and work for sustainability, socio-economic welfare, improvement and maintenance of environmental aspects in the given area.
This paper discusses the various techniques to implement such methodology so as to make our scenario green.
 Basic need is to promote voluntary simplicity in lifestyles of people in the city. Awareness related to environmental and sustainability issue plays a vital role to establish and maintain an eco-city.
 Resource conservation and maximizing efficiency of energy resources.
 Plantation in the city improves its quality as well as beauty.
 Construction of waste management system that can recycle waste and reuse it. For example building a biogas plant at small functional level.
