True Interpretation of Geometric Shape for Highway Embankment

G. Theivanathan, M. Thillai Backiam, V. Magesh, V. P. Kavitha

Abstract

Every object – both inanimate and animate including human beings are designed and created with a definite geometric shape and configuration to serve a specific purpose. When distortion in the shape or configuration occurs, the object can not serve its intended purpose and prompts the user to discard prematurely even at some cost. This is true even in case of human beings. The object being discussed in this paper is highway embankment. It is out of shape construction rather than distortion after construction that is observed in most road embankments.
Further insight into the subject revealed that the geometric figure of embankment specifically the side slopes at design and drawing itself are not drawn according to specification. This is noticed in computerized drawings which are more common now a days than a decade ago. An attempt is made in this paper to elucidate how the slope line is misinterpreted in computer graphics and a way to rectify the same.
