Seismic Performance of Building Frame by Using Horizontal Shake Table
Abstract
High rise structures are highly susceptible to seismic forces due to their increased height, flexibility and dynamic characteristics. Evaluating their seismic performance is essential to ensure structural safety and serviceability in earthquake prone regions. Shake table analysis is an effective experimental technique used to simulate earthquake ground motions and assess the response of structures under realistic loading conditions. This study focuses on the shake table analysis of a high rise building model subjected to earthquake excitations. A scaled structural model is developed and tested on a shake table to investigate key response parameters such as displacement, acceleration, natural frequency etc. The experimental results are compared with analytical predictions to validate the structural behaviour under seismic loading. The findings demonstrate that shake table testing provides valuable insights into the seismic response of buildings and helps identify potential failure mechanisms, enabling engineers to improve structural design and implement effective seismic resistant measures. This research contributes to the development of safer and more resilient high-rise structures capable of withstanding earthquake induced forces while complying with modern seismic design standards.
