Seismic Behaviour of Single Layered Steel Lattice Shell

Hannath P V, Jikhil Joseph

Abstract

Shell structures are the space structures. These are truss like structures constructed from interlocking struts arranged in a geometric pattern, where the loads are transferred in a three-dimensional pattern. The recreation facilities and transportation stations do have a lot of application of these lattice shells made of single layer. The seismic behavior of these type of structures are very much needed to be assessed in elastic and inelastic behavior for design inputs. The main dynamic characteristics for this form of structure are firstly examined through a parametric assessment, which also leads to proposed expressions for estimating fundamental period and mode of vibration. Structural Capacity Reserve (SCR) in terms of Residual Seismic Capacity (RSC) is used for performance assessment of commonly used five type lattice shells. Typical RSC ratio curves are used to find the efficient lattice shell.
