Utilization of Fly Ash, Rice Husk Ash, and Brick Dust in Cementitious Composites: A Sustainable Approach
Abstract
The increasing demand for sustainable construction materials has led to extensive research on the utilization of industrial and agricultural waste in cementitious composites. This review explores the potential of fly ash, rice husk ash (RHA), and brick dust as pozzolanic materials to partially replace cement or fine aggregates in mortar and concrete. Studies indicate that these materials enhance mechanical properties, improve durability, and contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing cement consumption and carbon emissions. Fly ash and RHA, rich in silica, exhibit strong pozzolanic activity, while brick dust contributes to improved workability and compressive strength. Additionally, their application in paver blocks and concrete pavements offers promising solutions for eco-friendly infrastructure. This paper evaluates their chemical and physical properties, pozzolanic reactivity, and influence on concrete performance. The review highlights the environmental and economic benefits of integrating these materials into construction practices while identifying areas for further research.
