Analysis of Solar Photovoltaic Performance in Different Global Regions

Md. Touhidul Imam, A. A. Md. Monzur-Ul-Akhir

Abstract

The increasing popularity and demand for solar energy as renewable and sustainable energy has created interest in economic events. PV performance measurement is crucial for selecting the place of solar power generation. In our study, we tried to find the best place for the highest PV conversion. Though some countries have higher global horizontal irradiation, they don’t have a high conversion rate. We have also found the place of Bangladesh in the list and observed how solar activities take place here. We have observed that Bangladesh is not among the best but has a comparative geographical advantage to attain better conversion efficiency. The paper also discusses the condition which affects the solar radiation. We have observed that higher irradiation at a place does not necessarily mean a higher expected performance. High performance majorly depends on the ambient temperature. It also has a dependency on terrain elevation, tilt angle, and wind velocity. In this paper, we have studied the solar data and other auxiliary of 35 countries from six different continents.
