"Assessing Workplace Mental Health Support: A Comprehensive Study of Awareness and Services Availability among IT Employees"
Abstract
This study investigates the extent of awareness among employees regarding mental health services within and outside their organization, aiming to comprehensively evaluate workplace mental health support. Utilizing a cross-sectional survey approach, data was collected from 100 employees aged 25 and above, representing various departments and roles within an IT organization in Gurgaon, India. Purposive sampling ensured diverse participant selection. The survey, developed through an iterative process, assessed workplace stigma across 12 dimensions. Findings reveal gaps in mental health training provision, with only a small minority reporting such programs. While a portion felt empowered to access mental health assistance, some expressed fear of judgment. Confidential counseling was available to a portion of respondents, yet a significant number lacked access. Positive aspects include a majority feeling comfortable reaching out to supervisors and workplaces promoting mental wellness. However, mental health first aid training availability was limited, suggesting areas for improvement. Collaborations with local practitioners and creative therapy workshops were reported, contributing to a supportive workplace community. Overall, while progress has been made, further efforts are needed to enhance mental health support comprehensively. This study contributes insights for developing targeted strategies to promote employee well-being in organizational settings.
