Efficient Method to Secure the Information Contents of an Image – A Parallel Approach

Jalesh Kumar

Abstract

In this paper a parallel approach to secure the information contents of images is proposed. The proposed method comprises of three stages. In first stage, the input image is decomposed into blocks of equal size which are processed in parallel. Each block is shuffled based on knight moves and crossover operation of genetic algorithm in second stage. All the blocks are encrypted independently and are merged. Artifact effects are removed from the merged image using exclusive OR operation in third stage. Novelty of the proposed approach lies in parallel processing of image for light weight encryption to reduce the processing speed of encryption of image. The experimental analysis is carried out by varying size of blocks. Security of the information contents of the image are computed in terms of structural similarity index and peak signal to noise ratio. The analysis reveals that the proposed algorithm escalates the security of the information contents of large images with reduced computation time, in comparison with serial process of the proposed method.
