Abstract

Motherhood is the most unique gift for a woman. The most precious gift and dream in the universe is her child. But to be pregnant and give birth to a healthy child is becoming a bigger challenge in this modern world than in the past. Many factors such as genetic factors, lifestyle changes, environmental factors, economic factors and social factors affect it. This is well explained in Ayurveda literature under Garbopagathakara Bhavas, which when followed by a pregnant woman can destroy the fetus. These can be correlated with teratogens in modern science. It's a Greek term, meaning monster making. If the Garbhini is exposed to Garbhopagathakara Bhavas, this may cause Garbha Antah Kukshi Nasha (Intra uterine death), Akala Prasava(premature labour), Garbha Srava and Garbha Patha (Miscarriage, Abortion), Garbha Shosha (Intra Uterine Growth Retardation) mentioned under Garbha Vyapad. This research is done as a conceptual study based on literature shreds of evidence in Ayurvedic Vruhathrayi and previously submitted research papers to analyze Garbhopagathakara Bhavas regarding modern society and progeny. Prevention and cure are the main goals of Ayurveda, which is better than avoiding Garbhaupagathakara Bhavas and getting used to Garbhini Paricharya which leads to bringing a healthy child into the universe.
