Effect of a Self-Instructional Module on Neonatal Jaundice among Primi-Mothers Admitted in a Selected Hospital in, Kerala

Shiny M Jose (Sr. Therese Jose S.H.)

Abstract

Background:Globally,   neonatal jaundice affects one in two infants. About nearly 50% of term neonates, and 80% of preterm infants, in India 61.1% of newborns developed clinical jaundice. Approximately 80-90% of infants develop jaundice within the first week of life. The neonatal period is only 28 days. Neonatal jaundice is considered one of the major newborn health problems not only in developing countries but also in developed countries. It is common among primigravida mothers due to poor knowledge about care and complications of low birth weight babies with jaundice. With this regard, there is an emergent need to educate mothers regarding the care and co Conclusion: The pretest score indicates that none of the subjects got very good or excellent scores on knowledge regarding neonatal jaundice. The post-test score was significantly high, which means 60.46 % had good and 4.65 % got excellent scores. Implications of neonates The difference between the aggregate pretest-post test learning was shown to be relevant at a 0.05 level.
