Industrial Automation Using VFD, PLC and HMI

Abstract


ABSTRACT

Many of the automation processes in industries need AC drives to control AC induction motors. In this paper, a robust system for switching on/off, varying the speed and direction of rotation of an industrial 3 Phase Induction Motor using VFD and PLC is presented. The speed of an AC motor is controlled by using the v/f method, which enables preventing reductions in the power factor or efficiency of a motor in the wide range of speed of operation for changes in the frequency for speed control by outputting a voltage corresponding to the frequency set by a parameter in an inverter. The PLC is programmed to control the operation of VFD from a HMI.
