DESIGN AND SIMULATION OF AN IOT-BASED WATER QUALITY MONITORING SYSTEM

Abstract


Providing safe water to citizens in cities and towns is crucial. However, water quality can fluctuate at any time due to pollution, increasing population, and pipeline defects. Traditional water testing methods are time-consuming and can't deliver real-time results, so issues in water quality may not be noticed promptly. This project creates an IoT-based smart water quality monitoring system that uses sensors to measure critical factors such as pH, turbidity, temperature, and TDS. These sensors are linked to an ESP32 that gathers data and transmits it to the internet via MQTT. Wokwi simulation was utilized to design and test the system. This allows verification of the system's operation without the need for physical hardware. Data can be displayed on a mobile or web dashboard, allowing city officials to check water quality constantly. If water quality parameters exceed safe levels, the system will send alerts to enable prompt action from authorities. The system is economical, simple, and appropriate for smart city applications. In summary, this project demonstrates the simplicity, speed, and reliability that IoT can bring to water monitoring.
