Voice-Based Emergency Alert System with GPS Location Sharing For Android

Abstract


Personal safety in emergency situations remains a major concern, especially for individuals who may not be able to use a mobile device due to panic, injury, or immediate danger. This paper presents a Voice-Activated Emergency Alert System developed for the Android platform, which detects distress keywords in both English and Tamil speech, identifies the type of emergency, and sends SMS alerts along with a real-time GPS location link to pre- registered contacts. The system uses Android’s Speech Recognizer API for background voice detection, the Fused Location Provider for location tracking, and SmsManager for sending messages. To avoid accidental alerts, a 10- second confirmation countdown is included, along with a one-tap Panic Button for quick access. The application supports four emergency categories — Medical (Ambulance), Fire, Police, and General — each sending appropriate alert messages. Testing results show reliable keyword detection, accurate location tracking, and timely SMS delivery across different Android devices.
