Hydrogen Fuel: A Sustainable Pathway towards the Future
Abstract
Hydrogen fuel is emerging as a pivotal energy carrier in the global transition toward low-carbon and sustainable energy systems. With its high energy density and clean-burning characteristics, Power generation, heavy manufacturing, and transportation are just a few of the industries that hydrogen has the potential to decarbonize. This paper presents a comprehensive overview of hydrogen production methods—grey, blue, and green hydrogen—with an emphasis on the environmental and economic implications of each. The current state of hydrogen infrastructure, storage challenges, and fuel cell technologies is critically examined. Furthermore, the paper explores policy frameworks, investment trends, and technological advancements driving the global hydrogen economy. Emphasis is placed on green hydrogen produced via electrolysis using renewable energy sources, which holds the most promise for achieving net-zero emissions. The study concludes by highlighting future prospects, research needs, and strategic initiatives necessary for the widespread adoption of hydrogen fuel as a cornerstone of a sustainable energy future.
