Innovative Herbal Drug Delivery Systems: Advances In Liposomes, Phytosomes, Ethosomes, Invasomes, And Nanoparticles
Abstract
The effectiveness of plant-based drugs has been significantly improved by the use of modern delivery technologies like polymeric nanoparticles, invasomes, liposomes, phytosomes and transferosomes. These new solutions offer sustained release and improved pharmacological effects, improved solubility, bioavailability and stability and protect against toxicity and degradation. Phytosome technology is a major breakthrough that improves bioavailability and stability by forming complexes of phospholipids and plant extracts that are lipid compatible.
Recent studies have highlighted the advantages of advanced drug delivery systems (NDDS) for herbal medicines, showing superior therapeutic results compared to traditional methods. Such technologies enhance absorption and bioavailability and examples include liposomes and solid lipid nanoparticles. The advent of herbal excipients, plant-based compounds that are economical, biodegradable and stable, has created opportunities for better drug delivery systems, but earlier innovation was hindered by problems of extraction and standardization of herbal drugs.
These changes give us a hint of the herbal medicine potential in present-day medicine especially in management of common health problems and in enhancing therapies like more potent anticancer therapy.
