Clockwork Health: A Deep Dive into Intermittent Fasting's Influence on Weight, Cardiovascular Wellness, and Longevity

M. Bharathi, T. Aditya Sai Srinivas

Abstract

Intermittent fasting (IF), marked by time-restricted feeding, has gained traction as a popular and effective approach for weight loss and health enhancement. This review delves into various facets of IF, focusing predominantly on its impact on the cardiovascular system, spanning atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes mellitus, blood pressure, lipid profile, and inflammation. With obesity on the rise, the search for alternative weight loss methods intensifies, casting IF as an attractive intervention. It displays promise for overweight individuals with type 2 diabetes, fostering metabolic health and curbing cardiovascular risks. IF's cost-effectiveness and low risk of adverse reactions enhance its appeal. Moreover, its influence on insulin sensitivity and potential lifespan extension underscores its holistic health benefits. Amid the persistent need for calorie intake restriction, a comprehensive lifestyle change remains crucial. In light of the burgeoning obesity epidemic, IF emerges not only as a viable weight loss strategy but also as a catalyst for a healthier lifestyle, countering life-threatening diseases. This abstract underscores the manifold advantages of IF, recognizing its potential to instigate a paradigm shift in obesity treatment and health management.
