Cyber Safety s Law Cyber Safety Awareness and Cyber Laws Among Students in India
Abstract
Cyber safety has become one of the most important concerns in the modern digital world. With the rapid growth of internet usage, smartphones, social media platforms, and online educational systems, students are increasingly dependent on digital technology for communication, learning, entertainment, and daily activities. Although technology provides many advantages, it also exposes users to several cyber threats such as hacking, phishing, identity theft, cyberbullying, malware attacks, and online financial fraud.
This research paper examines the importance of cyber safety awareness among students and discusses the role of cyber laws in India in protecting individuals from online crimes. The paper highlights how lack of awareness regarding online security practices makes students vulnerable to cyber threats. It also explains various cyber safety measures such as using strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, protecting personal information, and avoiding suspicious websites and links.
The study further analyzes the significance of the Information Technology Act, 2000, which serves as the primary cyber law in India. The Act provides legal protection against cybercrimes including hacking, online fraud, identity theft, and publishing harmful content online. The paper also discusses the role of cybercrime cells and government awareness programs in promoting cybersecurity.
The findings of this study show that cyber safety awareness is essential for reducing cyber risks and encouraging responsible digital behavior among students.
Educational institutions, teachers, parents, and the government all play a significant role in creating awareness regarding safe internet practices. The paper concludes that cybersecurity education and legal awareness are necessary for building a secure and responsible digital society.
