Abstract

In addition to congenital CMV syndrome, cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a common virus with symptoms that range from asymptomatic to severe end-organ dysfunction, especially in immuno-compromised people. Human cytomegalovirus belongs to the family of viruses called human herpesvirus-5 (HHV-5), Herpes viridae, or herpesviruses. Infections with the human cytomegalovirus typically affect the salivary glands. While CMV infections might be asymptomatic in healthy individuals, they can be fatal in those with impaired immune systems. The function of health professionals collaborating to manage CMV is explained in this activity.
