A Critical Analysis of Dragon Fruit

Abstract


Two species of what are known as dragon fruits belong to the Cactaceae family: Hylocereuspolyrhizus and Hylocereusundatus. Dragon fruit is rich in antioxidants such as betalains, hydroxycinnamates, and flavonoids that shield cells from aging-causing free radicals and other unstable substances. There are many health benefits associated with dragon fruit, including stronger immune system performance, healthier blood and tissue formation, and improved growth of the heart and teeth. Applying this prepared dragon fruit cream to your face on a regular basis can help to either delay or prevent the ageing process. It is also used as a treatment for acne and sunburn. Pitayas, often called dragon fruits, have about 60 calories per fruit.
