STUDY OF RELIABILITY PREDICTIONS AND EMC SIMULATION FOR UPS

Balakrishna Gudla, Pramod Kumar Naik, Sangeeta C

Abstract

In Power Electronics, design practices used are more or more little standardized. However, in real world, field failures are found high in spite of best design topologies practices being deployed. Hence, failures in product especially in India is experienced due to inadequate deployment other related Engineering practices like Reliability EMC in early stages of design. Program teams are more used to release the product early bypassing wholehearted deployment of Prevention Appraisal based practices like Prediction, Rerating, Modeling, Prognostics, EMC Simulation, and Demonstration etc. which leads firefight- ing, customer dissatisfaction. In this paper, entire process of EMC simulation will be studied. Example, Pspice model developed for Surge will be subjected to electronic circuit effect of the same will be studied. By applying surge, we can see the effect of surge module before implementing it in the hardware prototypes in power circuits. Reliability is the probability that an item can perform its intended function for a specified interval under stated conditions. Prediction models used are having differences among themselves and many limitations which makes it in accurate. In this project, various prediction models will be studied for UPS. Using reliability models like 217 plus, Bellcore/Telcordia, IEC62380, at different mission profiles with relax software bench marking of models with respect to UPS will be done.
