STUDIES ON MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF CONCRETE USING LATHE WASTE

P. Ganesan, P. Sivaraj

Abstract

This paper is about the study on the issue of using industrial steel scrap wastes that are obtained from lathes, on fiber reinforced concrete. That steel scrap waste disposal is an environmental issue but it can be remedied by recycling it with concrete. The objective of this research work is to determine the suitability of optimum level use of steel fiber in conventional concrete by testing the mechanical properties of concrete. A total of 45 cubes, 30 cylinders and 30 prisms are casted to identify the compressive strength, split tensile and flexural strength respectively. The specimens are tested over 7 and 28 days. The identified results from concrete using steel scrap fiber are compared with conventional concrete. Results showed that the addition of steel scrap fibers into the plain concrete mixture enhanced its all three tested properties.
