Application of Plastic Reuse in Permeable Concrete Block Pavers for Low Volume Rural Roads as a Key Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS) Technique

Anjith B Mohan, Divya Chandran

Abstract

Installation of impervious roads prevents ground water percolation and causes flood related problems. In permeable pavement block technology, a range of sustainable material and techniques are used with bottom base and sub base layers that all allows water to drip through it into the soil. This pavement can acts as an in in-situ infiltrating and drainage system. Also plastic in different forms are found to be almost 5% in municipal solid waste that creates stagnation of water and associated hygiene problems. In order to find a solution to both these problems, experiments have been carried out whether this waste plastic can be reused productively in the construction of low volume rural block pavements.
