Abstract

The upsurge in the rate of terrorist attacks especially within the last few years has shown that the impact of blast loads on structures could be a serious matter that should be taken into consideration during design process. Though such attacks are rare cases, man-made disasters; blast loads are in fact dynamic loads should carefully calculated not like earthquake and wind loads. Firstly, explosion types and also the nature of blast load are explained concisely. In addition, the general aspects of explosion method have been given to clarify the consequences of explosives on buildings. Essential techniques for increasing the capacity of a building to provide protection against explosive effects is mentioned both with an architectural approach.
