A Comprehensive Review on Insulating Concrete Forms (ICF) Systems

Shriyush Chauhan, Dr. Tarak Vora

Abstract

In general study the buildings are consume more than 40% of the total electricity for the cooling in hot weather country. This high energy consumption continuously damages the environment. That’s why the innovative approach of thermal insulation of buildings using insulating concrete forms in walls and slabs is in research and development stage. The insulating concrete forms are a phase changing material which is the mixture of expanded polystyrene beads (EPS), extruded polystyrene (XPS), cement and fine aggregates. This provides great thermal insulation to the structures and reduces the energy consumption. Hence, this approach is proved to be an environment friendly solution. Structural strength of different types of applications should be verified before its use in place.
