Simplified Analytical Analysis of Fundamental Time of Structures

Md. Foisal Haque

Abstract

Every structure has a fundamental time. Structure height influences on the fundamental time based on various codes formulae. In general, fundamental time depends on the variations of number of elements, dimensions, materials etc. Newly developed formulae of fundamental time are compared with the ASCE 7-05 and Eurocode 8. For RC structure, fundamental time difference between present study and ASCE 7-05 lies from zero to 4.6s. This difference between present study and Eurocode 8 is lower than the difference between ASCE 7-05 and Eurocode 8 within 200m to 360m height of structure. Minimum difference of fundamental time between present formula and ASCE 7-05 and Eurocode 8 is 1.5s at 60m height of steel structure. Variations trend of present formulae of fundamental time with the changes of height is similar to Eurocode 8 and ASCE 7-05 for steel and RC structure. Similar variation trend represents applicability of newly developed formulae.
