A State of Art Review of Light-Weight Steel Structure for Residential House Construction

Arifur Reza, Jawadul Amin, Dr. Sharmin Reza Chowdhury

Abstract

Light-gauge steel, (sometimes referred to as cold-formed steel and cold-rolled steel) is a cold-formed material used to strengthen and streamline building operations. It doesn't age as wood does. Contrary to structural steel, it is not bulky. It is not as weighty as concrete. One option to lower the cost of housing is to expand the supply of affordable housing more quickly, however the construction industry has trouble meeting demand using the present industrialized building system (IBS) because of the problem of high project costs, time, and labor. Consequently, the light steel housing (LSH) system, one of several IBS techniques, may be used in home building projects. The usual approach that was previously utilized to build projects for affordable housing can be replaced by this approach. A substantial quantity of knowledge regarding the benefits and applicability of using light gauge steel as the core material for building various structures has been obtained through the analysis of several study papers from various sources. This paper goes into great detail on the many phases of light gauge steel construction, the development of affordable housing, the modular design of light gauge steel, the benefits and drawbacks of utilizing light gauge steel as the core material for various structures, and some specific restrictions on doing so.
