

Seismic Behaviour of Corroded RC Column
Abstract
Corrosion of reinforcing steel in concrete structures is a widespread issue that significantly impacts
the structural integrity and performance of these elements, particularly under seismic loading. This
study investigates the seismic behavior of corroded reinforced concrete (RC) columns.
The main objective is to assess the effects of corrosion-induced deterioration on the column’s load-carrying
capacity, stiffness, energy dissipation, and failure modes under seismic conditions.
The study aims to contribute to the understanding of the vulnerability of corroded RC columns to
seismic loading, providing valuable information for structural engineers and researchers in designing
retrofit strategies and assessing the safety of existing corroded structures. The findings underscore the
importance of considering corrosion effects in seismic design codes and guidelines, ultimately
promoting more resilient and sustainable infrastructure in corrosion-prone regions.
