Optimal Design of a Gusset Plate and Analysis of a Steel Joint for a Stair Case

Abstract


Gusset plates for steel structures is quite a common engineering construction today.  The cost of steel constructions is quite expensive and optimal design of the components of the steel structure is the main focus of research today.  The main focus of this study is to find an optimal design for a gusset plate and analyze a stair case joint.  The optimization of the gusset plate is done using Midas NFX® for the given loads.  The joint is designed using Idea Statica® and checked for safety, stress limits and buckling.  This paper is towards optimal design of the components for the custom built structures in steel.  The design checks have been performed and the gusset plate joint is found to be safe.
