State-Of-Art Review of High Calcium Wood Ash as Partial Replacement of Fine Aggregate in Mortar and Concrete

Tanmay Gupta, Nikar Verma, Yogesh Iyer Murthy

Abstract

The current work attempts to provide a comprehensive and exhaustive literature review on the use of Wood Ash (WA) in cement mortar and concrete and thus provide vital research gaps present in the present state-of-the-art which would need further cautious attention for experimentation. Several work in the use of WA suggest that the source of wood and the incineration temperature are the governing parameters affecting the physical, chemical, mechanical and durability aspects of such concrete. In general, all research work concludes that use of WA adversely affects the fresh mortar/concrete properties and contradictions exist in case of mechanical properties of the latter. Very few papers are reported on the durability aspects and there is significant room for further studies in these areas. The use of WA in areas other than construction industry is enlisted to provide a better understanding for further investigations.
