Abstract

Types of shear wall and their location plays very vital role to make earthquake resistant structures. Shear wall is designed to resist in-plane lateral forces, typically wind and seismic loads.  In this study twenty five building models have been analyzed using ETABS computer software. Each model has ten stories having similar dimensions of structural elements such as column, beam, slab etc. Each model has been analyzed due to earthquake loadings with various numbers of spans and with four types of shear walls such as side shear walls, middle shear core, edge core and double shear cores. BNBC 1993 has been followed throughout the investigation process. The analysis outputs have been investigated to select the appropriate type and location of the shear walls for the multi-story buildings subjected to earthquake loadings. Only linear static analysis procedure has been adopted for this analysis.
