Self-Stressing of Concrete by Calcium SulfoAluminate

M. Vinitha

Abstract

Today, concrete is the most widely used construction material due to its good compressive strength and durability. The use of self-stressing types of concretes is limited to applications requiring only a low level of prestress. Each application of a self-stressing type of concrete to fabrication of structural elements or building units requires a careful investigation, not only of the properties of the concrete but also of the structural behaviours of the precast units. To date, this self-stressing type of concrete has been used in only a few structural applications. The aim of the investigation is to evaluate the use of Expansive Admixture that is Calcium SulfoAluminate (CSA) for creating self-stressing with in the concrete and studying its properties. Self-stressing concrete of M30 grade were cast by varying cement with Calcium SulfoAluminate (CSA) by 2.5%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25%. In this study, compressive strength, split tensile strength, modulus of rupture, flexural behaviour of self-stressing concrete under restrained and non-restrained conditions with varying quantity of calcium SulfoAluminate is evaluated and compared with the conventional concrete specimens. The optimum percentage of Calcium SulfoAluminate was found as 10%.
