Abstract

This research aims to study the properties of the self-curing concrete cast using different concrete mixes with various ratios of super absorbent polymers (SAP) as a self-curing chemical agent. Also, it aims to study the structural behavior of reinforced self-curing concrete slabs cast using this concrete type. The experimental program consists of two stages. The first is conducted to study the main properties of concrete mixes cast using different SAP ratios as a curing agent under the effect of different curing methods and different surrounded temperatures. The second stage is performed to study the structural behavior of reinforced concrete slabs cast using the optimum SAP dosage based on the first stage. The structural behavior is evaluated in terms of; deflection, tensile and compressive strains, initial cracking loads, ultimate loads, crack patterns, and failure shapes. The results of this research indicated that using SAPs as self-curing agents provide satisfactory results in relatively higher temperature degrees. The optimum ratio at 40oC was 0.2% as a ratio of cement by weight, while the corresponding ratio at 60oC was 0.3%.
