Sunil Khyaju

Abstract

Keshar Mahal Intersection, is the major intersection of Kathmandu surrounded Royal Palace Museum in the east, Indian Embassy and British Council in the north, Thamel, the tourist’s area in the west and Historical Rani Pokhari, Durwar High School in the south. This is the detail traffic flow analysis study of the same Intersection which is studied though the video graphic method, recorded on 6th of July by Prahari Aayukta Kaaryalaya, Ranipokhari and Aviyaan Consulting Pvt. The analysis figures out the peak traffic hour flow during 17:00-18:00 with the value of cycle, motorcycle, light vehicle and heavy vehicles as 515, 6922, 5254 and 178 per hour respectively, about 9.10 % of the total daily traffic flow. The directional traffic volume counts the maximum traffic of 32171 PCU from Jamal leg through launcher leg. The proportion of right turn vehicles from the respective legs with total of 2316 PCU and that is about 24% of total traffic flowing during peak hour flow. The average headway and speed of individual vehicle during the peak hour flow were determined with the value of headway 3 sec and speed 41 kmph for motorbike.
