Travel Time Reduction and Driver Preferences after the Construction of Alappuzha Bypass

Hafees Mohammed, Kavitha Madhu

Abstract

Ring roads are considered to be the best option for reducing the traffic congestions of a city. For the cost effective movement of goods and people, these traffic congestions must be reduced. This study is mainly conducted about the Alappuzha Bypass which is recently constructed for the purpose as a ring road. It is constructed for easy travel through Alappuzha town by NH 66 and better connectivity for the town. This is built in turn to reduce the traffic congestion inside the city. Alappuzha Bypass is a part of NH 66 that bypasses traffic of Alappuzha city in Kerala, India. The 6.8 km long bypass is the first of its kind elevated beach highway in the country starting at Kalarcode in the south to Kommady in the north and runs along the scenic beachside of Alappuzha city. The project got completed in the year 2020. In this paper, we would like to check the time travel benefits and the choice of the users after the construction of bypass. Mainly the travel time reduction is calculated and the choice preference survey is being conducted and analysed context.
