The Effects of Inadequate Drainage System on Access Road and People Living In the Street, A Case Study of Selected Streets In Ado-Ekiti

Ayiti O. M

Abstract

Ado-Ekiti has been experiencing growth and increase in population which has transcended to increase in demand for housing and expansion of streets. Although, the population growth doesn’t reflect on the development of streets especially in the term of drainage system. The effect of inadequate drainage system on access road and people living in the street, case study of Ajebandele, Ikigbisin and Omisanjana streets in Ado Ekiti can be categorized under the environmental, infrastructural and health problems. Primary and secondary data were been adopted and possible causes of inadequate drainage system were been examined. The study recommended that every means to ensure adequate drainage system must be explored so as to manage the possible consequences. It was established that construction of drainage system across streets is the assignment and responsibility of Local Government Authority. It is therefore necessary for the appropriate authorities to consider the various effects and respond swiftly.
