A Study on the Suitability of Glass Powder and Poly Propylene Powder as Flexible Pavement Material

Sukanya K R, Dr. Kavitha Madhu

Abstract

Raw materials for pavement construction are facing depletion since they are non-renewable in nature. There is need for alternate materials to replace the natural resources. The study is meant to have an insight on sustainable development. Reusable materials like Glass Powder (GP) and Polypropylene Powder (PP) are chosen in the study. Methodology includes binder modification with PP and fines replacement with GP in the wearing course mix as per Marshall mix design. Stability and flow value tests are performed on the specimen. Modified mix with PP and GP performs better than mix modified with GP alone. Adopting PP and GP in the mix can conserve natural resources, reduces the effort of material disposal and reduces the material cost.
