Abstract

E-commerce, as an adoption that has the transformative potential in the manufacturing sector is yet to be fully understood in relation to order fulfilment processes within Nigerian manufacturing companies. The overall goal of e-commerce includes to help companies develop digital sales network and logistics infrastructure that support efficient online order fulfilment as customers now care about receiving time to time information about the order, the process of delivery and the available delivery options. This study examined the impact of e-commerce adoption on order fulfilment in the manufacturing companies. It is a study that looks at the data from 20 manufacturing firms in consumer goods within Nigeria using a multi-stage sampling procedure. The paper also applied descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to look into factors such as processing time, accuracy of orders, customer response, and applying technology. The findings revealed that e-commerce has positive and significant impact on order accuracy (p=0.000), customer feedback(p=0.000), order tracking, fulfilment flexibility (p=0.000), and impact of seasonal demand (p=0.002). In this respect, the findings demonstrate a wide significant enhancement of efficiency, accuracy, and levels of customer satisfaction mainly attributed to a technological advancement in e-commerce with regards to order fulfilment. The study therefore recommends that manufacturing companies should invest their resources into more advanced e-commerce platforms that utilize strong order tracking, real time data analysis and flexible fulfilment options.
