Influence of Containerization on Port Performance in Nigeria (Case Study of Apapa Port, Lagos)

Abstract


Containerization in a cutting edge peculiarity in transportation since its development has cleared every one of the methods of transportation and move vehicles can join with each other in starting and finishing ventures in freight transportation. Holder streams might be distinguished as the drum; however their arrival includes a progression of connected factors constrained by the partners. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the influence of containerization to port performance and specific objectives were to examine the roles of containerization in port operations in Tincan Island Port, Lagos, ascertain relationship between containerization and port performance, and determine the influence of containerization on port performance. Essential information and Auxiliary information will be utilized in this examination with the utilization Defined irregular testing and purposive testing strategies. 100 well validated structured questionnaires were distributed. The results showed that containerization has positively influence port operations and performance. And the selected indices were statistically significance difference between the group means at level of significance of 0.05. The study concluded that containerization had reduced port congest and increases cargo security in Apapa port but when compared to other developed terminals of the world, they are underperforming.
