EFFECT OF TRAFFIC CONGESTION ON THE SOCIO ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES OF URBAN MOBILITY IN ILORIN, KWARA STATE.

Abstract


Traffic congestion has become a major issue with the city centers facing the most challenges. Due to urbanization and the high increase in the use of roadway vehicles, the problem of traffic congestion is increasing day by day. The poor traffic situation arises as a result of the various roles of Ilorin as industrial, commercial, educational, administrative and transportation centre. Also, the geographic location of the city, the unruly behaviors of drivers and the sudden rise in car ownership consequent upon improved standards of living, use of trailers and tankers have all combined to compound the problem. In order to achieve this, the study tends to examine the relationship between times spent on road traffic congestions and socio economic activities in Ilorin.

            The review region is Ilorin city. The population of the study includes the entire road users’ along the selected routes (Geri-alimi, Tawio road and Ajase-epo road of Ilorin metropolis.

            The result also shows the relationship between times spent on road traffic congestion and socio economic activities in Ilorin is shown in this section. This is achieved using linear regression model. The coefficient of determinant R2 was 0.96 and the multiple correlation coefficients R was 0.416. In conclusion therefore, in order to have an effective traffic flow within Ilorin metropolis and has been able to examine the times spent on traffic congestion, and able to determine human elements in traffic congestion. The review suggested that there ought to be satisfactory arrangement and refinement in other to street clients mindful that public transport is the answer for maintainable vehicle later on, which is the motivation to increment consumer loyalty.
