The Role of Technology in Enhancing Fleet Management Efficiency in Southwestern Nigeria
Abstract
Efficient fleet management is a critical component of transportation systems, contributing to operational performance, cost optimization, and safety. This study investigates the role of technology in enhancing fleet management efficiency among private and public road transport operators in Southwestern Nigeria. Drawing on data from 372 respondents and secondary sources, the research examines the adoption of GPS, telematics, and fuel management systems, alongside their impact on operational metrics such as vehicle utilization and driver performance. Findings reveal that technological adoption significantly improves efficiency and reduces costs, although challenges such as infrastructural deficits and resistance to change persist. Recommendations include investments in technology training, policy incentives, and infrastructure upgrades to maximize the benefits of digital solutions in fleet management.
