Abstract

As more and more women in Bangladesh are now joining in workforce, harassment toward them is also increasing. It is very important to explore the perceived travel risks among women to ensure a more gender sensitive transportation planning. A mixed method analysis to explore travel risks of women was done with a few individual women as the samples. From the field survey and analysis, it has been found that majority of women face a constant threat of harassment while travelling and face a lack of safe women friendly transportation system. The study area being a heavily industrialized area incorporates a wide range of women in the daily travel pattern of the area. At the same time, the area is also observing an increasing amount of harassment and violence towards women in the recent days. The existing facilities also have not met the current demand of the females of the area. This study also consists of some recommendations based on the analyzation of the study and opinion of the respondents to reduce the existing problems.
