A Review on Segmentation and Recognition of Text from Image Using Pattern Matching

Abstract


Text present in images contain important and more useful information and it can be used to describe and analyze images and therefore text is the most important content among all the contents in images. Segmentation and recognition of text from image is hence very important and it is involved in applications such as document retrieving, object identification, detection of vehicle license plate, mobile robot navigation etc.  Segmentation is a process of dividing an object or image into a number of segments based on the requirements of the application and it can be done through various approaches. The recognition of  text from image can be achieved by optical character recognition (OCR), which involves a computer system designed to translate images of the printed or written text that are captured by scanners into machine editable text. In this paper, different methods of detection and recognition of text from various images are considered.
