Menaga S., Nivethaa R., Nivethaa B., Paul Shiny E., Vishnu Priya K.

Abstract

Recent day anthropological developments increase the sophistication and demand for modern equipment. Bountiful research works were conducted across the globe focusing towards implementation of new inventions into practical applications and products. In these researches an attempt is made to envisage the implementation of smart grid meter to control electricity flow in electronic appliances. Recent day power surges and fluctuations create demand for the implementation of smarter tools and technology into household appliances. ZigBee protocol was not new, yet was powerful tool, in this work it is used in tandem with Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) to control power meter. Normally smart grid meter allows two-way communication between gadgets and customer, we had modified smart grid using ZigBee protocol and also had additionally added fire and gas leakage sensor in congruent with WSN. This enables the instrument to exceed the normal utilization, and also increases its efficiency.

Keyword: ZigBee Protocol, wireless sensor network (WSN), fire sensor, gas sensor
