WAVELETS FOR DENOISING ELECTROCARDIOGRAM SIGNALS

Mary Sugantharathnam D, Jayasree T

Abstract

The Electrocardiogram (ECG) plays an important role for the diagnosis of heart related diseases. diseases. In this paper, wavelet-based thresholding approach is used for the removal of noise present in the ECG signals. Different types of noise might be hidden in the ECG signals due to the presence of natural and other artifacts in the surrounding recording environments. Additive white gaussian noise is the most common type of noise present in the ECG signals, which is very difficult to eliminate with the help of low pass and high pass filters. In this paper, we have proposed wavelet based denoising techniques for the removal of AWGN present in the ECG signals.
