Intermission or Impasse? Decoding the Impact of Research Fellowship Delays on PhD Trajectories

M. Bharathi, T. Aditya Sai Srinivas

Abstract

This article investigates the impact of breaks and delays in pursuing a Ph.D. during Research Fellowships. Examining the factors contributing to interruptions, we explore the consequences on academic progress, mental well-being, and career trajectories. Utilizing qualitative and quantitative methods, the study aims to identify patterns and common challenges faced by doctoral candidates during fellowship interruptions. Additionally, we analyze institutional support systems and propose strategies for minimizing disruptions. The findings offer insights into optimizing the Ph.D. journey, informing universities, policymakers, and scholars on mitigating setbacks associated with research fellowship breaks, ultimately fostering a more resilient and efficient doctoral education landscape.
