Introduction and Design of Elbow Type Draft Tube with Hexagonal Shape at Outlet

Abstract

The electricity is necessary every day for daily home as well as industrial applications. Major part of the electricity generation is done by various power plants including thermal, hydro and nuclear plants with the other renewable sources. In hydraulic power plants including small hydro plants, there are two major types of turbines i.e. impulse and reaction turbines. Pelton turbine is the best suitable example of impulse type turbine. In reaction turbine, Francis, Kaplan and Propeller turbine are of great use. The importance of draft tube in hydraulic turbine is really as per expectation because the overall efficiency of the reaction turbine is improved if appropriate draft tube is connected to the turbine. In this paper the elbow type draft tube with hexagonal shape at outlet is proposed
