ChainTrace: Blockchain-Based Anti-Counterfeit System for Product Traceability
Abstract
ChainTrace, a web-based blockchain application that will tackle the problem of counterfeit goods in modern supply chains. Counterfeit production has negative economic impacts, undermines the reputation of companies and brands, and poses risks for consumers' health and safety. Current approaches to counterfeit detection are vulnerable to tampering, duplications, and fraud.
The new system utilizes the power of Ethereum smart contracts to build an unchangeable platform for authenticating and logging events of the life cycle of products in the supply chain. A unique serial number is assigned to each item, while all the necessary information about products – name, brand, description, etc. – is kept on the blockchain network. Information about the manufacturing process of the goods and its subsequent changes are also logged in a tamper-proof format.
ChainTrace will be developed using React.js (Frontend), Node.js + Express (Backend), and Solidity (Smart Contracts). MetaMask will serve as a secure authentication service for interacting with the blockchain network. It will enable users to authenticate products based on their history registered on the blockchain. Currently, the ChainTrace prototype works on a local blockchain network.
