Tribological Behaviour of Polymer Matrix Composites Reinforced with Metal (WC) and Metal Oxide (TiO2)

Nachiket G. Chanshetti, Vaibhav R. Kukade

Abstract

In this work tribological behaviour and hardness of pigment (TiO2) and Tungsten carbide (WC) reinforced epoxy resin composites had been examined. TiO2 and WC particles were included inside the epoxy matrix in three distinctive volume portion (0%, 5% and 10%). Examples were made by hand layup strategy by throwing epoxy glue and reinforcement blend in molds. Wear and hardness (shore-D) test were acted in accordance with the ASTM G99-95a and ASTM D 2240 guidelines. Tribological properties of specimen were checked by pin on disk founded by varying load on disk and its speed. From results it was observed that both TiO2 and WC particle reinforcement shows reduction in wear and hardness of epoxy will increase by addition of WC particles compared to TiO2
