Abstract

The globalization of manufacturing and agriculture has brought renewed attention to the importance of health, efficiency, and validation in the food and agricultural supply chain. This has led to a significant increase in the number of food safety and corruption hazards, highlighting the need for efficient traceability solutions that serve as essential quality management tools to ensure product safety. Blockchain technology has emerged as a revolutionary method for commodity traceability in agriculture and food supply chains. Given the complex nature of today's agricultural supply chains, which involve multiple stakeholders, it is difficult to validate critical requirements such as nation of origin, crop growth phases, quality standards compliance, and yield monitoring. This paper proposes a strategy that leverages blockchain technology to effectively conduct business operations across the agricultural supply chain for tracking crop prices and traceability. The proposed framework eliminates the need for trusted centralized authority and intermediaries, and offers transaction records that improve efficiency, science, and safety with high integrity and reliability. All transactions are recorded and stored in the blockchain's immutable ledger with links to a decentralized network, ensuring a high degree of traceability and transparency in the supply chain ecosystem in a stable, reliable, and efficient manner.
